You're Incredible

Dear Abby Bug,

I have not written for too long.  Life started getting ahead of me and I slacked miserably. Your 4th birthday is coming up and I decided to write you again. You have made so much progress in last nine months than you have in years before.

You've started sleeping at night. Not through the night. You still wake up around 1:30 am and stay up until 5:00 am. But you're back to sleep and up by 8:30 am every day. And out like a light by 7:30 pm.  We're counting our blessings that we all are getting that much sleep. :)

You're riding the bus like a champ to school every day.  Your bus driver is wonderful and loves you dearly. You two have clicked really well. Today I told you the bus was here and you jumped up and grinned and clapped happily.  I put your coat on and you giggled when you heard your bus driver.

As Ronnie and I talked I mentioned your blindness, assuming she knew. She did not. She was so shocked to find out you are blind.  She couldn't tell.  You were just as capable and upbeat as the other preschoolers on her bus. You didn't talk or walk, but she assumed that, that was your disability. Ronnie adores you and admires your determination in life to grow, learn and be strong.

I do too.

Your teacher, Miss Linda, recently emailed me.  She let me know you sing along with the other kids during greeting time. You sing your own tune without any words, but you're singing nonetheless. You're walking longer distances now and you're trying harder at home to communicate. Bronco and Shelby love playing with you now and it made Bronco so happy when you cuddled with him yesterday.

Abigail, you may not be able to tell mom and dad everything you want us to know, and we're working on that. Sometimes it's difficult to understand you and we know it's hard to understand us. But I know that won't last long. You are doing amazing things in such a short amount of time. You continue to impress everyone you meet and light up their lives. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm proud of you.

I can tell things to Bronco and he gets excited and understands. You understand some things, but when you're older I want you to know all the great things you did too, little and big. You're incredible baby girl and you're life is only just beginning.

Love Mommy
